AVN 30th Year To Be Celebrated At The Hard Rock!

Just this week, AVN announced it’s intent to once again take over the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas Nevada for it’s annual adult entertainment week of events that attract tens of thousands from all over the world. Just like in January of 2012, the AVN plans to host all of it’s shows including Internext, Adult Entertainment Expo, Adult Novelty Expo, AEE Fan Fest, & the 30th annual AVN Awards. Wait…maybe you didn’t absorb that. I ended with “The 30th annual AVN Awards”! Yeah, that’s right AVN will also be celebrating 30 years of the Awards Show & 15 years of the Entertainment Expo.

With that said, I think this coming January 2013, LasVegas will definitely be the place to be. However, let me back up a bit. The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, with it’s small size, was able to not only pull of the 2012 event but somehow successfully negotiate another year with AVN for the 30th Anniversary. I for one, am TRULY shocked. I could have sworn form all the feedback I received that a new larger venue would be in the works for 2013. Kings had the opportunity to exhibit this year at the 2012 event for the 1st time & all things considered I thought it was ok, definitely a learning experience. After a last minute exhibit upgrade, my exhibit received more than it's share of traffic so I really can't complain! I was pleased with my location as it was right next to a row of bars! This allowed the Kings family to entertain many of their fans, develop new fans & leave a lasting impression with both consumers & other industry peeps alike! The Hard Rocks design of several halls, allowed them to break up the weeks events into the various halls, but, as hard as they tried, they still didn’t have the same comfortable presentation as with the previous years at the Sands Expo Center. The massive convention space at the Sands still left “unused” space with all the expo attendees & features, while the Hard Rock struggled to effectively handle the capacity of such a huge consumer driven event. In addition, it was revealed that because of the various locations, some attendees didn't know that there were "other" areas to enjoy.

I mean, don’t get me wrong,I feel that for the Hard Rock, the event was a HUGE success! From full occupancy, to gambling & restaurants, they definitely felt the revenue increase for that week. But, that’s not all! The other hotel services & products such as the business center made a freaking killing as well! After short conversations with business center staff, it was clear that prior to the AVN Expo., they needed a boost in sales/income. Well…a boost is what they received..AND THEN SOME! Think about the number of adult companies attending that needed fax services, shipping & travel assistance. And hell if charging each business to receive & send their packages for their exhibits, booths, products & displays weren't enough…they even made a bit more by charge each individual exhibit for electricity! (Essentially, if you needed it, they’d run a extension cord to your exhibit..for a handsome fee of course!) Bottom line, when I was leaving the Hard Rock with bags in tow,the employees were already planning what to do with their bonuses! So it’s fair to say, The Hard Rock had plenty of motivation to retain this event for the following year…even offering AVN a bigger discount to lease the place…maybe?

All I know is, this event HAS TO BE well planned with both the consumer & industry attendees in mind. Celebrating such a milestone should not over shadow a comfortable, fun-filled, quality experience FOR ALL! What do you think about the 2012 AVN Expo & the upcoming 2013 Anniversary edition? If you have some input, feel free to comment on it below!

Much Love!
